With the kids

Be prepared to be interrupted at least 5 times within a 2 minute expand which is what is happening as I write this… In my experience you need patience and more than usual when you are travelling with your little ones. Also be prepared but do not freak out if the plan you had come up with to entertain  them  goes out the window because it most likely will. Try to keep them awake at least 2 hours before you are travelling (specially by plane). Ideally walk with them at least once in a period of 2 hours, this way they are able to burn a bit of energy. Hubby and I have choose to travel by car most of the times because of the flexibility the mode of transportation (you are able to stop at any rest stop and if needed change your plans). We all know the stares people give you with a screaming infant or toddler in a crowded airplane and we just like to avoid that if possible. The following is  a list of objects that I have found useful when travelling by car, bus or plane Bring snacks Cereals, chewy bars, trail mix, chips Apple and baby carrots (usually there is no leakage and they do not get spoiled as fast) Candy yes try lollipops or their favorite chocolate bar Entertainment Crayons and activity book Story book Stickers Post it notes Tablets with a ton […]

The 1st Kingdom

Most families have traditions that are passed down for hundreds of years. In the case of my family (hubby, kids and I) we are starting a lot of new traditions since we both grew up in very different countries, cultures and religion ( He was born in India and as you know I was born in Colombia). One of those […]

The other day, I was wondering why do I love travelling so much? and then I started to look back into my my quarter of a century life. I was born in Bogota, Colombia but grew up in a city 3 hours Southeast of Bogota. My mom’s family lived in Bogota while my dad’s family lived in small towns near where I grew up. I remember we were always going on a road trips to visit a family members at least 2 hours away. This was about 3 to 4 times a month for 12 years…. The longest road trips we took by car was in 94 and 95. We went from Bogota to Santa Marta. The drive is anywhere from 16 hours to 20 hours. Even though I was 5 I remember those trips as if we went yesterday. We visited Medellin, Barranquilla, Bucaramanga, Cartagena and a ton of other little towns. The highlights for me on the trip were: -Listening to Pastor Lopez music (Colombian folklore music) -Seeing the “Zona Bananera” ( the region of Colombia were bananas are produced). The “Zona Bananera has been one of the most beautiful scenery I have seen to date. – The beaches of Santa Marta – Looking out the window and admiring the ever changing landscape ( we went from Bogota that is 8,8660 feet from sea level to Santa Marta that is 20 ft from sea level) -The “patacones con […]

A Dose of Reality

Before I start writing about our adventures and travels, I want you guys to look at the whole picture of travelling with or without a family.  The ugly, the bad and the good :). The Ugly As I stated before we only have one income.. we live in in the biggest city in Canada.. which logically is expensive to live in. We rent a small 1 and a half bedroom apartment.. (affordability of a house or apartment in Toronto and Vancouver has become an issue for people of my generation). Hubby and I have been on our own since we were 20 and we do not get any financial help from either of our parents. So a few years ago we decided that owning a house or even apartment was going to be out of our reach so we decided to travel instead. So the “dream” of home ownership does not exist in our lives… (yes we could move 3 hours away from here but this is where the jobs are plus we get to travel). The Bad Sacrifices are made every day, some sacrifice more than others but any sacrifice is hard. First let’s start with work.. hubby works an average of  15 hours a day/ 7 days a week and I take care of the kids. We do not go out on dates (we watch Netflix & eat McDonald’s once in a while). I buy drug store make […]
